Limited Edition Prints by Master Art Photographer Kevin Vandivier
Mountains is a collection of fine art mountain landscapes, mostly from the American West, that Master Art Photographer, Kevin Vandivier, has captured throughout his career. Vandivier is very particular about what makes for a great mountain landscape fine art print. He often tells aspiring photographers that most landscapes require both an incredible foreground worthy of memorializing in a photo and a skyscape to crown it with. The fine art photography at The V Gallery is sold mostly in limited editions. Due to the hands on process Vandivier requires for the printing of his work, we are unable to sell our prints online, which usually require the use of a photo fulfillment center, which pretty much translates to machine prints. THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO:
As I was heading to Snowmass Mountain for shooting some fall colors in the area, an early snow storm began to fall slightly veiling the view of Snowmass Peak. When I was younger on my first trek to Snowmass Peak, I decided to hike to it via Maroon Bells and Buckskin Pass. I was with a couple of friends. What usually take two to three days to hike for most folks, we did in one day. We were about 100 yards from the lake at Snowmass Peak when I completely passed out. Next thing I knew I was in a tent laying down and my buds were laughing it up at camp fire and it was nightime. When I emerged from the tent. Confussed about what had happened and pissed I had missed the sweet light. My friends jumped up to help me over to the campfire. They handed be a huge bag of frito's and filled it with chili and cheese, ordering me to eat up. I needed salt in system. I was drinking enough water but had sweated all the salt out of my system. THE COMING STORM
THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO:
After spending the morning shooting photos of moose and fall colors. I found this place up in the national forest, which borders and overlooks the parks Teton Valley. As I was setting up to shoot the fall colors with the range in the background I noticed a distant storm forming o the back side of the range. After about 4 hours of waiting, this was the wild scene I was hoping for. Soon we were engulfed in a major snow storm, in which I made some of the best wildlife and scenic photos of my career ! SOLITARIO
THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO:
The Solitario is a large geologic formation in Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas. When viewed from above, it suggests an impact crater; though it is actually the eroded remains of a laccolith. The formation forms a full cirle but I was not able to gain enough altitude to capture the whole thing in a single photo. The mountain range reminds me of sharks teeth. Glacier National Park is another one of my favorite places to explore and shoot fine art photos at. I try to make it in time for the ice brake up each year. Here on Lake McDonald on the western side of the mountains I decided to light paint theses rocks near the shore. While awaiting the light to get dark enough, this photo presented itslf to me as the ice shifted and allowed the mountains to reflect out of the lakes waters.
